Admissions Query

We welcome applications for places here at Redmile CE Primary and visits from parents and pupils too.

We are an academy within the Rise Multi-Academy Trust. Admissions are coordinated by the Local Authority (LA), but within Rise, Directors are the Admissions Authority. Responsibility for the operation of this policy is delegated to the Local Governing Body of the academy, who allocate places according to our Admissions policy. This means it is necessary to contact both the school and the LA to apply for a place. When Governors have considered your application and a decision has been made, the LA will write to you directly with the result.

First time admissions into school

  • Please see our Admissions Policy for your child's year of admission (below).
  • Please apply online at Leicestershire County Council's School Admissions or contact 0116 305 6684 if you need a paper form.
  • LA letters are sent out on 11th April informing of the outcome of your school place application.

Mid-Term Applications

  • Please see our admissions policy for your child's year of admission.
  • Please apply online at Leicestershire County Council's School Admissions or contact 0116 305 6684 if you need a paper form.
  • Applications and visits are welcomed and can be organised at any time of the year. Please contact the school office by telephone or email.

It is a good idea to call us before making contact with the LA so that we can advise if there is any space in your child's year group. You can still apply but would be refused a place if there is not a space. You would then have to follow the appeals process (outlined in the Admissions Policy and below) should you be unsuccessful.

Timetable for Admission Appeals

Appeals should be sent to The Clerk to the Appeals Panel, St. Martins House, 7 Peacock Lane, Leicester, LE1 5PZ preferably via email to officedbe@leicesterdbe.org .

The appeal must be in writing on the relevant form, which can be obtained from the Diocesan Board of Education, St. Martins House, 7 Peacock Lane, Leicester, LE1 5PZ or downloaded here from the DBE website

Appeals lodged after the deadline, like appeals for in-year admissions, will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

In all cases, appellants will receive at least 10 days’ written notice of the appeal hearing.

Applicants may submit additional evidence in writing by 12 noon the day before the hearing.

Decision letters are sent to the school and appellant within 5 days of the hearing.

Important Admissions Letter from the Local Authority

 Date            10/01/23

Dear Parents and Carers,

Applying for your child’s primary school place is such an exciting first step into education. We’re writing to remind you that if you need to make an application for first-time primary school places, the deadline is Sunday, 15 January 2024.

We’ve made it quick and easy to apply online through the parent portal

  • It’s important that you select three schools, including one in your catchment area. This means you’ve got the best chance of securing a place for your child at your preferred school or the school nearest to you.

  • We’d like to make it clear that choosing just one school will not increase your child’s chances of securing a place there. School places are allocated based on the school’s admissions criteria.

  • If you’ve already submitted your application but have not put down three schools, you can try and do this via the parent portal. If you find you cannot make an amendment on the portal, the application has already been passed to the school admissions team. In this case, you can make an amendment via our admissions amendment request form found here

  • If you’re not sure if a school is in your catchment area, you can check with them directly - most have this information on their websites.

We work hard to make sure everyone is happy with their school place, but demand is high. We really don’t want anyone to be disappointed, so do make sure you select three schools and send the application before the deadline on 15 January 2024.

After this date all applications filed on time will be considered together, ahead of any submitted late. If your application is late the school place your child gets might not be local to you because priority will be given to those who applied on time. There is no automatic entry for schools.

If you’re applying for an education, health and care plan (EHCP) and you think your child might attend a specialist school, it is still important to fill out an application for a mainstream primary school place. This will ensure they will have a school place in the autumn.

If you need any help, the school admissions team will be available to you Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 9am - 4pm. They will be offline to parents on Tuesdays and Thursdays to focus on the applications received.
