Welcome
Executive Headteacher's Welcome
Mrs Hopkins, our Executive Headteacher
As the proud Executive Headteacher of Redmile Church of England Primary School, I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I hope it will give you a flavour of the fun and exciting opportunities on offer at our very special school.
We are a small, but growing school in a rural community offering a wide and varied education delivered by an enthusiastic and dedicated staff, who will do every thing in their power to ensure that each child reaches his or her full potential.
We are surrounded by glorious countryside, and overlooked by the historic Belvoir Castle. There are farms all around us, beautiful walks along the Grantham Canal just outside the village and the famous Viking Way, which is used by walkers and cyclists alike.
We have ease of access to local secondary schools, including nearby post-11 grammar schools in Grantham. We are located between Grantham and Bingham, which are just off the A52 and near to Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and Nottingham; all local towns have access to national railways.
Redmile is a friendly, welcoming school that can cater for up to 105 pupils aged 4 to 11 and has a new before and after school childcare facility. As a small school, our numbers on roll vary each year and so all classes have mixed aged groups which works really well. We have maintained high standards, achieving excellent results that are often above national averages.
Redmile Church of England Primary School is proud to serve three villages: Redmile, Barkestone-le-Vale and Plungar; the children from Barkestone le Vale and Plungar travel into Redmile by school bus. We are also happy to welcome pupils from out of catchment if there are places available.
Our aim is to create a happy, secure learning environment rooted in Christian and British Values which enable all children to achieve success.
As our numbers increase, so do the teaching staff: we have a Head of School, Mrs Longden (pictured right); three full-time class teachers; a full-time nursery nurse, and a number of highly skilled Learning Support Assistants who bring a wealth of experience to the team. Plus, there's me, of course! Our pupils also benefit from the expertise of our French teacher, sports coaches, music teachers and staff who lead Woodlands Adventures, all of whom teach with us on a weekly basis and are very much part of the school.
Currently, we will have three classes of mixed ability and gender, all vertically grouped: Reception, Years 1/2; Years 3/4; and Years 5/6. Our class pages, will help you to see how wonderfully our classes work and what fun they have, learning and playing together.
We are developing a knowledge-rich curriculum encompassing all areas of the curriculum, including the creative arts and technology, with literacy and numeracy central to our work. Our children love the whole school projects and charity events that we plan for, especially when they are involved in choosing them.
We treat all our pupils individually, developing their self-esteem and confidence and enabling their unique talents to flourish. We firmly believe that by teaching children how to live life in all its fullness, they will remember it throughout their life and will be able to make wise choices that will enable them to flourish and succeed as adults in a diverse society.
Our vision also centres around our motto ‘learning together, having fun’ and so working together with a strong support team, made up of staff, Governors, parents, the community and visiting friends of the school, ensures that learning is exciting, relevant and fun. With the support of funds from our annual charity event, The Viking Challenge, opportunities at our school are plentiful, helping us to create magical memories for our children, their families and our staff.
We were delighted to become an Academy within Rise Multi-Academy Trust (formerly Diocese of Leicester Academies Trust) on 1 December 2014. The Executive Headship became a permanent arrangement in September 2015 with Waltham-on-the-Wolds CE Primary School, closely followed by Croxton Kerrial and Wymondham CE Primary School who joined our partnership, in 2019. All schools work closely together, which has strengthened and enhanced each school. We also work closely with schools in Rise and others within the Vale of Belvoir and Melton Mowbray.
We are very proud of the caring, family-orientated, Christian ethos we share; as one of our pupils once said, "We may be small, but there's room for everyone."
If you are a prospective parent looking for an admission place for your child, please contact us as we would be pleased to show you around.
Enjoy your 'journey' around the site and please let us know what you think about it.
