New Starters & EYFS

We know that starting school is a big milestone for both children and their families, and we are committed to making the transition to school a happy, positive and exciting experience.

Before joining us in September, children starting in Class 1 are invited to attend up to four transition sessions during the summer term. These sessions help children become familiar with their new surroundings, meet their teachers and classmates, and discover what life at Redmile Primary School is all about.

Our current Reception pupils play an important role in welcoming new starters. They help children settle in, make new friends and learn where everything is, creating a warm and supportive environment from the very beginning.

Induction Meetings for Parents and Carers

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to every child's success. Parents and carers are invited to attend a series of induction sessions designed to provide helpful information and answer any questions about starting primary school.

Welcome and Induction Meeting

This informal session offers an introduction to life at Redmile Primary School. Families will receive a Welcome Booklet containing useful information about daily routines, school uniform, book bags, lunches, wraparound care and everything needed to help children feel prepared for their first day.

Phonics and Early Reading Workshop

Our staff will explain how phonics, reading and early writing are taught in Class 1 and share practical ways families can support learning at home.

We value the parent-school partnership and know that working together gives children the best possible start to their learning journey.
